We live in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada

Beverly Ann Storie

Bev's primary occupation for many years was as a Mom. Apparently she was really good at it, because both offspring survived into adulthood and are still talking to us. We have thus made our mark in the world in a Darwinian sense. As the kids started to grow up, she began working in the Insurance Business and later tried other office work.

In addition to her interests in travel and in being a world-class mom, Bev is an avid hiker and nature enthusiast. Her first love is still the beach - or beaches. Her favorite places in Manitoba are the beaches and lakeside campgrounds of Lake Winnipeg.

Find her on Facebook.

Ken Storie
I spent much of my adult life as a school teacher and administrator. I now do consulting, research and writing relating to Heritage Sites and History.

My website, Virtual Manitoba,  started with my ongoing efforts to simplify access to resources and information about the history, geography and culture of our province. Visit it at:    virtualmanitoba.com

Life

It seems logical to me that a love of the outdoors and a respect for nature go hand in hand with a concern, in a larger sense, for the environment. I like the term, "self propelled adventure". It says it all.  I prefer to walk and paddle: better for me - better for the earth.

Over the years I have played guitar in various bands in the Brandon area.

Work

I do some project management and writing for the Turtle Mountain - Souris Plains Heritage Association.

Beliefs

The world in which you were born is just one model of reality. Other cultures are not failed attempts at being you; they are unique manifestations of the human spirit."  Wade Davis

“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” Voltaire

I think that saving the planet starts at home. That is something I'm trying to explore in a section of Virtual Manitoba that I call
Healthy Communities...

“Being a Humanist means trying to behave decently without expectation of rewards or punishment after you are dead.”
― Kurt Vonnegut

Some thoughts on the study of History....

"There is an undeside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written from records left by the priviledged."
Howard Zinn

“Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong.”

James Bryce, British historian and ambassador to the United States.

"Empires and churches are born under the sun of death."  Albert Camus

We Canadians try to be on the right side of history – but too often we fail. We fail largely because morality and money are seldom on speaking terms.

John Boyko - Glode & Mail. July 27, 2021

To commit genocide it is not necessary to build camps and ovens. All that is required is to remove the basis for a way of life.
